In the past when a patient underwent cataract surgery, the ophthalmologist would provide thick eyeglasses or special contact lenses after the surgery for the patient to wear for improved vision. At the time this was the only option, but cataract surgery changed when the FDA approved artificial intraocular lenses (IOLs) in 1981. An intraocular lens replaces the natural lens that is removed during cataract surgery.
Modern technology and research helped push the development of intraocular lenses; thus, surgeons could focus on different surgical techniques, design of the lenses and how design affected the position and healing of intraocular lenses in the eye.
Traditional intraocular lenses are monofocal, which means they correct the vision for one distance only:
Monofocal intraocular lenses are an improvement versus the eye’s natural lenses that are affected by cataracts, but the patient will still need to wear contact lenses or eyeglasses to view objects at arm’s length, such as labels, books and computer screens.
If you prefer not to deal with prescription eyewear after cataracts surgery, you should visit your eye doctor to discuss an alternative.
What’s another lens replacement besides monofocal intraocular lenses? It’s a multifocal intraocular lens, and our ophthalmology office offers multifocal lenses called AcrySof IQ ReSTOR.
What Sets ReSTOR® Multifocal IOLs Apart from Monofocal Intraocular Lenses?
ReStor Multifocal IOLs utilizes apodization—a patented optical technology. It’s a diffractive technique that distributes light to near and far points. Multifocal means the lens has multiple focal points and adjusts the light exposed to the retina, improving the eyesight for a range of distances.
After surgically placing multifocal intraocular lenses, patients are less dependent on eyeglasses. With monofocal lenses the patient can see farther distances but must still use glasses while reading or using the computer. ReSTOR® allows a patient to view objects at a distance and in the near distance for computer use and reading without glasses! It’s a vast improvement for your vision and quality of life.

In this day and age, skin care regimens and rejuvenation treatments are essential to preserving a youthful appearance. Sun damage, aging, and lifestyle choices will affect the texture and complexion of your face. With a treatment to counteract those factors, it’s possible to make a dramatic improvement of the skin. In particular, there is one skin rejuvenation treatment that PritiSkin offers to target multiple skin issues all at once. The treatment is called Forever Young BroadBand Light (BBL).
The BBL technology delivers infrared and visible light that reaches the molecular and surface levels of the skin. This can alter the human genes that affect the aging process.
Non-Surgical Aesthetic Treatments Rise in Popularity
Why are more people turning to skin rejuvenation treatments? It saves time. Instead of using vacation hours to undergo a cosmetic procedure, men and women can get Forever Young BBL as an outpatient treatment. A little bit of your time can produce maximum results for the tone, texture and elasticity of the skin.
The Forever Young BBL procedure treats:
- Abnormal pigmentation
- Enlarged pores
- Dark age spots
- Broken capillaries
- Uneven skin texture
- Sun damage
- Diminished collagen
Forever Young BBL Candidates
If you want a skin rejuvenation treatment that has no downtime and minimal discomfort, see if you are a good candidate for a Forever Young BBL application. Like many non-surgical treatments, Forever Young BBL is a good choice for patients looking to maintain a youthful appearance.
If you have deep wrinkles or sagging skin, we recommend another cosmetic skin treatment, particularly one that is intended for those issues.
