Blepharoplasty is an eyelid surgery that removes the excess fat, skin and muscles from the lower and upper eyelids.
The Cosmetic Benefits of Blepharoplasty
In most cases, a blepharoplasty is done for esthetic purposes because dropping eyelids make the eyes look puffy and tired. This can alter your appearance.
Other Reasons for Undergoing Eyelid Surgery
While you may want to just rejuvenate the eyes and lids, it’s also important to remember that eyelid surgery can improve your quality of life.
Heavy, droopy eyelids can cause vision problems. With heavy eyelids out of the way, it’s easier to see, and it’ll be safer to drive, operate machinery and complete other daily tasks that require good line of vision.
How Does the Blepharoplasty Procedure Work?
The duration of the procedure depends upon how much excess fat, skin and/or muscle needs to be removed.
The typical incision for a blepharoplasty is located underneath the lashes on the lower lids and in the crease of the upper eyelids. These incisions are very small, so it’s less likely for there to be scarring.
In some blepharoplasty cases, excess tissue doesn’t require removal, so Dr. Mary Szatowski will perform a transconjunctival blepharoplasty, which means the incision is located inside the lower eyelid.
