LASIK

If the first thing you do in the morning and the last thing you do at night involves glasses or contact lenses, Laser Vision Correction (Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis) may be your answer. Over a million people around the world have had Laser Vision Correction. If you are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism, LASIK could bring your world into focus. Laser Vision Correction is becoming the most common elective surgical procedure in the United States. The surgery is painless and eliminates or reduces the need for eyeglasses or contact lenses to see objects clearly. Patients are usually able see more clearly within 24 hours. The goal of LASIK is to reduce your dependence on corrective lenses.

PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy)

PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) is laser surgery to correct refractive error. In this type of surgery, a flap is not made; instead the epithelium of the cornea is removed and then the same excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea. A contact lens is worn after the procedure for approximately five days.

Intralase®

The IntraLase® FS laser is a highly precise tool aiding in corneal flap creation, the first step in laser vision correction surgery. During the procedure, the IntraLase laser fires 15,000 pulses per second into the cornea, where the flap can be created at a depth and diameter determined by the surgeon as appropriate for each individual patient. In addition to benefiting from this pinpoint (2-3 micron) accuracy, patients who undergo surgery conducted with the IntraLase laser are less likely to need an enhancement (follow-up) procedure than with other technologies.

Custom Wavefront

Wavefont technology allows surgeons to perform customized LASIK, LASEK and other refractive surgeries using information gathered from the patient's own eyes. During a pre-operative examination, light is projected onto the retina and a set of measurements called a wavefront is created. Data obtained from the wavefront exam is converted into a waveprint, a unique profile of the patient's optical system that is as personal as a fingerprint. Using the results of the wavefront procedure, surgeons can correct the particular refractive errors that obscure the patient's vision.
